Job Description Synopsis:

 

The Managing Director is a senior management position, responsible to and collaborating with the Executive Director on the overall stewardship of the Foundation to provide the highest level of grantmaking consistent with mission and strategy.  The Foundation’s grantmaking strategy operates within a movement-building framework, and the Managing Director would need to draw upon personal experience as an activist and organizer.  The Managing Director is responsible for managing the operations of the Foundation in an effective and facilitative manner. S/he is concerned with the efficient and wise use of the Foundations’ financial and human resources to achieve their goals and objectives, by collaborating with the team to implement strategies, policies and programs, and supporting and supervising the staff, consistent with objectives, parameters, standards, and principles set by the Executive Director and the Board.  S/he will be responsible for directing the programs and administration, with the Program Coordinator and Director of Finance and Administration, and for facilitating clear internal communication. The Managing Director will ensure good public relations and fundraising, and represent the Foundation with the public.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Advanced degree or equivalent; minimum 10 years relevant experience, in key positions such as: Executive Director, Program Director, or Program Officer. Proficiency in the majority of the following skill sets: Microsoft Office Products, Project Management, Strategic Thinking, Financial Management, Fundraising, Public Relations, Research Design, Staff Supervision and Development, Organizational Development.  Facilitative Leadership experience and aptitude a must.  Must be self-motivated and highly organized, with an ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and pay attention to detail and follow-through.  Must be able to motivate others.  Working with diverse racial/ethnic populations and experience in philanthropy or other organizations engaged in social change required.

 

This position will be based full time in our Northampton office.  Some travel required.
